How to Connect Your AI to Your Tools With MCP
Your AI can't see your inbox, calendar or CRM. MCP opens those doors. Which ones to open first for sales and marketing, and the first jobs to give it.
On this page
Your AI assistant knows everything, but it can't see your inbox, your calendar or your CRM.
MCP is how you open those doors. This page explains it in plain words, gives you the first connections to set up for sales and marketing, and the first jobs to give it.
Every week without these doors, you copy and paste between tabs, and the leads you forgot stay forgotten in your CRM.

Copy this for your agent
Paste it into Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any agent you use. It asks before anything paid and never sends, deletes or changes anything without your OK.
Help me connect my AI assistant to the tools I use for sales and marketing. First ask me which assistant I use and which tools I use for email, calendar, CRM, notes and analytics. Then give me the first 3 connections to set up, in order, and for each one say if an official connector exists, the setup steps for my assistant, what it lets you read and what it lets you change. Start with read access where possible. Once they are connected, find leads in my CRM and inbox I have not replied to in 30 days, list them with the last message and a reason to follow up, and draft one short follow-up for each. Ask before using any paid API or tool. Never send, delete or change any record or calendar event without my OK, only draft.

Two signs this isn't a fad
- Anthropic, OpenAI and Block: Anthropic released MCP as an open standard in November 2024. In December 2025 it gave MCP to the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation, co-founded with OpenAI and Block, so no single company owns it. Source
- HubSpot: its own remote MCP server became available to all HubSpot accounts on April 13, 2026. An AI assistant can read and update CRM records, and every action respects the user's HubSpot permissions. Source
The tools you already pay for are building the doors themselves. You just have to open them.
01MCP in plain words
Imagine your assistant is locked in a room. It knows everything, but it can't see anything: not your email, not your calendar, not your CRM.
MCP is a door. Gmail gets a door, Notion gets a door, your CRM gets a door, and now when you say "find me the leads I forgot", it walks through and comes back with them.
Before and after the doors:
| You ask | Without the door | With the door |
|---|---|---|
| "Who should I follow up with?" | It asks you to paste your CRM | It reads the CRM and lists them |
| "Prep me for tomorrow's calls" | You copy every invite and email | It reads your calendar and the email threads |
| "How did last week's post do?" | You screenshot your analytics | It pulls the numbers itself |
| "Write up this call" | You paste the notes in | It writes the page in Notion |
MCP is one shared standard, so the same door works in more than one assistant. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others can all connect to MCP servers, though what's available depends on the app and your plan.
Do this today: find your tabs
- Write down the three tools you copy and paste from the most this week
- Those three are your first doors
02The sales doors
Start where the money is: the conversations you're having and the ones you forgot.
| Door | What it lets the assistant do | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Gmail (Claude's Google Workspace connector) | Search your email threads, find who went quiet, draft replies | Keep sending on approval, read every draft |
| Google Calendar (same connector) | See your week, find free slots, prep you for each meeting | Confirm before it creates or moves an event |
| HubSpot (official remote MCP server) | Read contacts, companies, deals and tickets, create and update contacts, companies and deals | Start with read scopes, add write later |
Using another CRM? Search "[your CRM] MCP server" and use the one the company itself publishes. If there isn't one yet, start with email and calendar.
Do this today: open one sales door
- Connect your email and calendar in your assistant's connector settings
- Ask: "Who emailed me in the last 30 days and is still waiting for a reply?"
- Check three of the answers by hand, so you know you can trust it
03The marketing doors
Once sales is connected, give it the places where your content, your team and your numbers live.
| Door | What it lets the assistant do | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Notion (official hosted server) | Search and read your pages, write call notes, keep a content calendar up to date | Works in Claude and ChatGPT, sign in with Notion |
| Slack (official MCP server) | Search messages and files, read threads, draft messages, create canvases | A workspace admin has to approve it |
| Google Analytics (official MCP server) | Pull reports on your traffic, and on signups if you track them as events | Read-only, and setup is more technical (Python) |
The rule: one door per job. If you can't say which job a door is for, don't open it yet.
Do this today: one marketing door
- Connect Notion, or wherever your content plan lives
- Ask: "List my last ten posts and which topics got the most replies"
04Open them safely
A door works both ways. Whatever you connect, the assistant can read, and with write access, it can change it.
- Official servers only. The one the tool's company publishes, not a random repo
- Read first, write later. Add write access once you trust the answers
- Approve every send. Emails, messages and calendar changes stay drafts until you say yes
- Least access. Pick the smallest scope that does the job
- Watch what it reads. OpenAI warns that untrusted MCP servers can carry prompt injection, meaning text that tries to give your assistant orders
- Review monthly. Disconnect any door you didn't use
05The first jobs
A door you never walk through is useless. Give it these three jobs in your first week.
Look at my CRM and my inbox. Find every lead I have not replied to in 30 days. List them with the last message, how warm they were, and one reason to follow up now. Draft a short follow-up for each. Do not send anything.Check my calendar for tomorrow. For every external meeting, read our last email thread and the CRM record, and give me five lines: who they are, what we talked about, what they want, the open question, and my next step.Pull last week's traffic and signups from analytics and my content calendar from Notion. Tell me which posts brought visits or signups and which did nothing. Suggest one thing to do more of next week.Do this today: run job 1
| Lead | Last contact | Reason to follow up | Draft OK? | Sent? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
- Run job 1, read every draft, rewrite it in your own words and send it yourself
06The first doors, by founder type
If you sell to founders, the doors and the message depend on who you're reaching. What to connect first and what to have it draft:
Where their trail is: your inbox, your CRM and LinkedIn messages.
Wants: traction this quarter, and their own time.
First doors: email, calendar, CRM.
Hey [first name], we spoke in [month] about [their problem]. Saw you just [new hire / launch / raise]. Is [the problem] still on your list, or did you fix it?Hey [first name], no pressure. If now isn't the time, what would make it the time? Now an operator, advisor or angel. Knows a lot of founders.
Where their trail is: old email threads, intro emails and meeting notes.
Wants: to be asked for their view, and to help founders they like.
First doors: email, calendar, Notion for your notes.
Hey [first name], when we met in [month] you said [what they said]. I took it and [what you did]. Thank you for that. Do you know one founder who's dealing with [the problem] right now?Hey [first name], quick update in case it's useful: [one result]. No ask, just wanted you to know it helped.Builds in public on Instagram, X, YouTube or TikTok.
Where their trail is: your content calendar, comments and DMs, your analytics.
Wants: their audience and their next post.
First doors: Notion, analytics, email.
Hey [first name], your post on [topic] got people asking [question]. I drafted a short answer you could use: [two lines]. If it helps, happy to show you how I do this for my own posts.Hey [first name], saw [new post] went up. Same question in the comments again. Want the setup I use to answer them fast?MCP is a door from your assistant to your tools. Open email, calendar and your CRM first, then notes, team chat and analytics. Use official servers, read access first, and approve everything before it goes out.
